Everyone is welcome, especially older adults, people living with dementia, those who support them, and anyone interested in access to justice for people with dementia. Tours take about 30 to 45 minutes.
Please note that for reasons related to the work of the Court, guided tours may be changed or cancelled on short notice.
This event will coincide with the launch of our discussion paper on criminal sentencing, focusing on how courts consider a victim’s age and personal circumstances as a statutory aggravating factor that may result in a more severe penalty. The paper invites reflection on how this Criminal Code provision is currently applied in cases involving older victims with dementia, and explores whether the law is functioning as intended or whether it may benefit from further study or reform. It is intended to support ongoing dialogue about accountability, proportionality in sentencing, and access to justice across Canada.
